What’s Coming This Episode?

We’re 34 episodes in to this little adventure of ours and it’s time to take stock of where we’re all up to. Do you live your life in the present? Are you ‘living in the now’? This episode is designed to focus your minds on everything that is important.

Astonishingly, Sean also uses todays episode to admit that he doesn’t have all of the answers to life and that, occasionally, he might be wrong about things. Incredible!

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

Ah, difficult people! Sometimes there’s just no escaping them, either at home in our family life or at work. Is blood really thicker than water? This can be a tough point to take on board but remember that for the difficult person in your life it’s you who is being difficult.

There’s some advice in this from Sean that you might not expect…

What’s Coming This Episode?

When do we stop being children and become ‘adults’? When we turn 13? After leaving school or home? How about when we stop learning in general? We often look at young children as beings that need to be taught, but another reality is focusing on what they can teach us.

As we grow older we learn prejudice, fear and anxiety. Once you realise that this has been learned then you’re free to make the change and release your inner child.

What’s Coming This Episode?

New year, new you? A new year can mean new beginnings. This time of year is a great time to do a ‘self audit’. Reflect on how your life has been and dictate to yourself how you are going to be going forward.

Resolutions are funny things though, and can be quite superficial. There are plenty of statistics that show us how many will fail at resolutions just weeks or even days into their new habits. Not seeing these new habits through can be quite damaging to a person so think it through and make sure you’re ready to take it on before you set the goal.

This one’s a heartfelt chat with Sean and Ed but it’s chock full of tips to kick start your 2014. Happy New Year everyone!

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

Christmas is here and so Sean and Ed are here to discuss why we celebrate this strange but wonderful time of year. In a universal sense, Christmas is about the end of darkness and the beginning of light (think about it). Advent calendars, chocolate, turkey and decorated trees = what’s it all about?

What’s Coming This Episode?

Loneliness is a killer, didn’t you know? There are plenty of blog posts that discuss this. Sean and Ed do the same this week on The Self Help Podcast and also take a look at the positive sides of some time on our own. Loneliness and solitude are very different things.

We all have a drive to connect, but is ‘collecting friends like stamps’ as we now do on Facebook & Twitter really making genuine connections?

You can be at home, alone with the TV and phone off and feel connected to the world. You can also be on a crowded train platform and feel horribly alone. Sean and Ed try to teach you how to be alone in the following 30 or so minutes.

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

Nelson Mandela recently passed away and he’s left quite a legacy. His rise to prominence and his journey from angry young to forgiving, empathetic elder statesman was truly remarkable. What was Mandela’s legacy? For some it may be negative, for the vast majority, it’s incredibly positive.

Here’s the thing: we’ll all make mistakes but we are all given the choice to make better choices today and tomorrow. If you do that consecutively for years on end you’ll have lived quite a life.

Ed makes a couple of semi-heartfelt apologies whilst this week it’s Sean’s turn to feel a little sleep deprived.

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

We all have very different experiences of pain. The fact that pain is in the mind can be tricky to accept, but even harder to deny. Some are able to withstand much more than others, both psychical and emotional. All together now – pain is in the brain! Pain is in the brain!

Ed apologises if he sounds a little tired this week. He’s just got back from a few days in Munich with 15+ loutish lads. Great city!

What’s Coming This Episode?

What is work and why do we do it? We’ll spend perhaps a third of our lives at work so we need to be very careful that we’re doing work that we find rewarding. Our work, in many cases, defines who we are. When a person asks ‘and what do you do?’, how do you answer?

Sean and Ed discuss status, their relationship with money and many other things besides. Do you dread those Monday mornings? Then it’s time to change.

In other news, Sean has been to London town and Ed’s cholesterol is down. Praise be!

What’s Coming This Episode?

Last week it was sleep. This week: dreams! Whether you remember them in the morning or not, you do dream. But why do we dream? For all sorts of reasons! If you want a better understanding of yourself then perhaps you could pay more attention to your dreams.

Do you remember many of your dreams? Do you record them? Have you done much work to try and understand them? There are even people who have learnt to control their dreams. Imagine the creative potential of that.

Enjoy the show!
