History of the recording…

Relax and Let Go is a magical recording that I did about twenty-odd years ago. At various times I have attempted to re-record it in digital form but it never works quite the same …

Let me tell you a story. It was about 1983. I bought a multi-track cassette recorder; I think it was called a Fostex X15. Anyway, I was working providing counseling in the Natural Health Centre in Totnes for a lovely and extraordinary lady, Pat. One evening, I came out of the Centre and was waiting in the roadway for a lift. An old, white-haired and psychic lady came up to me with a simple message. “You will be inspired to play a piece of music. You must record it as it is a very powerful healing vibration,” and then she went on her way.

About a week later, I woke in the middle of the night with a tune in my head. I got out of bed and within a couple of hours I had recorded a multi-track of what I entitled “Canoe” because it felt like water falling down a rapid. I went on to use this as a backing for various relaxation and healing recordings and it has been used in many setting from the Royal Marsden Hospital to big business. Anyway, it works. I was in a pub in the hinterland of Wales in Trawfynydd. I went to the bar and asked for some more drinks and the lady behind the bar asked, “Is your name Sean?” “Yes,” I said. “I go to bed with you every night.” she replied. Someone had given her a copy of Relax and Let Go; the drinks were free.
