What’s Coming This Episode?

You can say an awful lot without moving your lips, didn’t you know? Our bodies are talking constantly, sending messages to all who may be watching. We come in all shapes and sizes and, further more, we all move our bodies in different ways.

Body language secrets aren’t tricky to spot or learn, and many will invest a good deal of time (and money!) to learn them. Most people are aware that crossing your arms is a fairly negative sign if you’re talking/listening to someone. There are far more subtle cues to look for as well.

There are some great ‘self help tips’ this week from Sean so let’s dive in…

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

Is it just us or does everyone seem stressed these days? Are we all just working too darn hard? Stress is an interesting thing in that it doesn’t really exist; it’s something that we create ourselves. With that realisation comes the power to wave goodbye to it at any moment. So… how stressed are you?

Are you really stressed? Are you sure you’re not just overly busy? If things are getting out of control then there are some great ways to bring your energy back to where it should be.

Enjoy the show!

Resource of the Week

  • Sean has a very relevant resource this week – the Anti-Stress App for iPad
  • Ed has been using the Instant Heart Rate app for iPhone. There are loads of them in the App Store so take your pic but this one is good as, if you pay for the full version, it allows you to track your heart rate over time.

What’s Coming This Episode?

Rational or otherwise, fear is something that affects us all in one form or another. For Ed it’s spiders (how predictable). Sean? He has a fear of drowning that stems, he thinks, from the day he was born. True story. Many phobias are completely natural. A fear of heights keeps from harm, as does a healthy respect for certain creepy crawlies.

There are a few techniques that we can use to overcome our phobias and Sean and Ed will tell you how. Be gone, nasty snakes!

Sean’s still feeling the effects of a full blown case of man flu at the start of the episode. Poor chap. This episode was, again, recorded at the offices of Rethink Mental Illness, a wonderful national UK charity based in London.

Fear explained. Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

A guru is defined, quite simply, as someone ‘who imparts initiations’. Guess what that means? YOU ARE A GURU! Yep, you are a teacher and you have an impact on every person that you have ever met or hope to meet.

On the flip side, maybe it’s time to look at who it is that you spend the most time with and assess whether those relationships are positive or negative. Deep. Don’t forget about Mandel, Mother Theresa and Ghandi too, of course.

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

It’s tough at the top. People are always slinging mud and taking pot shots. Today,we’re the mudslingers! The Secret is an amazing product full of superb wisdom, ideas and lessons. It also doesn’t explain enough, in our view, about the sheer hard work that needs to be put in to making big changes in your life.

Ultimately, the trouble with The Secret is the same for all self help books, DVDs and other products: they only work if you apply the lessons that they teach.

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

How’s your relationship? We all have our good and bad days and it’s hard to stay on track, but there are certain things that we can all do to help ourselves (and the ones we love). This episode is full of rock solid advice for those in relationships (and for those who aren’t – there are lessons here for all who interact with other human beings). Hint: communication is a big one here.

Ed’s been to a wedding where he danced like crazy and ended up with a tie wrapped around his head. Sean is gearing up for some singing with friends. What a pair.

Enjoy the show!

What’s Coming This Episode?

The word ‘Mindfulness’ and the phrase ‘to be mindful’ seems to be cropping up more and more in popular culture. What IS mindfulness, what does it mean and is it worth the hype? Well, if it’s good enough for Novak Djokovic, then it’s good enough for us. Be calm, live longer! Sean and Ed dive in…

[button link=”https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-self-help-podcast/id663490789″ bg_color=”#2d7ec4″]Subscribe to The Self Help Podcast in iTunes[/button]

What’s Coming This Episode?

Money is an amplifier. Spend it wisely and you’ll see positive changes in your life. Make some poor decisions and odds are that you’ll spiral downwards. Our relationship with money is programmed into us at an early age but, ultimately, we’re all entrepreneurs of one kind or another.

Thanks again to listener Vide Kadampa for being the inspiration for this week’s show. If there’s anyone else out there that has had similar (or other) thoughts about the show, drop us a line.

In other news, Sean wishes his mother-in-law a happy birthday and is slightly frustrated over the lack of progress on his loft conversion. Here comes the Autumn. Ed might just have taken the best photo of his life but curses the little man who posed for it as he kept our host up all night, meaning that Ed might sound a little more groggy than usual.

Full marks to the listener that spots Sean’s stomach rumbling on one occasion this week. Enjoy the show 🙂

TSHP014 – How to Avoid a Stressful Holiday

[button link=”https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-self-help-podcast/id663490789″ bg_color=”#2d7ec4″]Subscribe to The Self Help Podcast in iTunes[/button]

What’s Coming This Episode?

Holidays. Buckets and spades, water slides, tension-filled airports and sun burnt faces. A good holiday is hard to come by and, if you’re not careful, can result in higher stress levels than before you set off.

Autumn is starting to close in here in the UK which can be a tough time for those in strained relationships (both with others and themselves), in fact, now might be a great time to take a vacation! Before you do though, let Sean and Ed fill your ears with some advice.

Some points for discussion: What do you consider to be a holiday? Do you feel at all anxious before you set off? If so, you might not be heading to the right place. IF you are heading away with someone soon, think about sitting down with them before you leave and talking about what you both want from your time away.

First, they had a whole batch of iTunes reviews to mention before they really got started this week. Thank you all so much for taking the time to help us with your feedback and support. If you haven’t already and would like to, here’s the link to leave us an honest review of The Self Help Podcast.

Enjoy the show 🙂

TSHP013 – Is Honesty Always the Best Policy?

Note from Ed: We ran over a little bit this week – Sean and Ed just couldn’t shut up! Apologies to all who are used to listening on their 30 minutes commute to work! That said, we’ve had a lot of feedback that people would like the show to be longer. Let us know if you agree!

What’s Coming This Episode?

Let’s be clear from the start: 100% honesty is, thank goodness, completely impossible. Ed starts the debate in typically intellectual fashion by talking about the big budget Jim Carrey movie ‘Liar, Liar’. Being honest 100% of the time will land you in a whole lot of trouble in minutes. From a very early age we test the boundaries of what can and can’t be said, eg. ‘where’s your big fat belly?’ (this will make sense, we promise).

Be sure to check out Ed’s Jack Nicholson impression.

Sean is busy building his loft conversion / recording studio. He’s set himself a TWO MONTH deadline to complete this and we implore all of our loyal listeners to hold him to this. Ed has been out racing his kart again. Joy of joys.

In other news, in turns out that celebrity TV chefs may be way off the mark when it comes to the nutritional excellence of their food. Shock! Horror! Ed is only too happy to talk about a clever chap called Jacque Fresco, the 97 year old visionary and architect. Be sure to look up The Venus Project.

Enjoy the show 🙂
